Promote Quicker Healing

Pr /post surgery massage and MLD TreatMENT

Massage therapy improves your blood circulation and nutrient absorption, which helps to shorten your post surgery healing. It’s also used to aide in breaking up scar tissue and preventing more from forming.

These careful techniques also create stronger blood circulation and combined with a relaxed body, help to supply the skin and organs with more oxygen and nutrients. This is especially important post-op because it strengthens and keeps your immune system strong, preventing infection and accelerating your recovery rate.

Even if your surgery isn’t due to an injury, the benefits are endless. Stretching and working problem areas can increase the range of motion while maintaining the body’s agility.

Manual Lymph drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle massage technique designed to stimulate the flow of lymph fluid through the body, helping remove waste products and reduce swelling. Imagine a clean set of filters for your body to help you heal at a quicker rate with less pain, swelling and bruising.

Dr. Shanna Arno is a trained and certified MLD Practitioner ready to help you on your journey to bring optimal healing for your next surgery whether is sport and injury related, joint replacement, or a medical procedure, she will help tailor your treatments to meet your goals to heal your body.

Benefits of Pre-Surgery MLD:

When performed in the days or weeks leading up to a surgical procedure, MLD can offer a number of potential benefits:

  1. Reduction of Pre-Operative Swelling

    • By enhancing lymph flow, MLD helps clear excess fluid from tissues. This can result in less localized swelling prior to surgery, allowing surgeons to operate on healthier, less inflamed tissues.

  2. Improved Circulation and Tissue Health

    • Better lymphatic drainage supports overall circulation, delivering more oxygen and nutrients to tissues. Healthy, well-oxygenated tissues typically heal faster and are more resilient to complications.

  3. Lower Risk of Postoperative Complications

    • Optimized lymphatic flow and reduced inflammation can contribute to a reduced risk of postoperative complications such as hematoma, seroma, or infection.

  4. Enhanced Immune System Function

    • The lymphatic system is a crucial component of the immune system. Stimulating lymph flow with MLD can support immune responses and potentially reduce the likelihood of infection after surgery.

  5. Promotion of Relaxation and Stress Reduction

    • MLD’s gentle, rhythmic strokes help calm the nervous system. Reduced stress levels can have a positive impact on surgical outcomes and overall patient comfort before and after the procedure.

  6. Better Surgical Outcomes and Potentially Faster Recovery

    • When tissues are in better condition and less inflamed, surgeons often find it easier to perform procedures. As a result, patients may experience smoother recoveries, with potentially fewer complications and reduced post-op swelling.

Benefits of Post Surgery MLD:

After surgery, MLD is often used to help with recovery and improve overall healing. Here are the benefits of post-surgery MLD:

  1. Reduces Swelling and Edema: MLD helps to drain excess fluid from the tissues, which reduces post-surgery swelling and edema, often resulting in faster recovery.

  2. Improves Circulation: The technique stimulates lymphatic flow, improving blood circulation and facilitating the delivery of nutrients and oxygen to the tissues, which supports healing.

  3. Relieves Pain and Discomfort: By reducing swelling and improving circulation, MLD can alleviate pain, tightness, and discomfort often associated with post-surgical recovery.

  4. Boosts Immune Function: MLD stimulates the lymphatic system, which plays a key role in immune function by removing waste, toxins, and foreign substances. This helps improve the body's ability to fight infections after surgery.

  5. Reduces Scar Tissue Formation: By promoting healthy tissue regeneration and fluid circulation, MLD can minimize the formation of scar tissue, reducing the risk of adhesions and fibrosis.

  6. Enhances Relaxation: MLD is a gentle and soothing technique that can help reduce stress and anxiety, providing mental and emotional support during the recovery process.

  7. Improves Skin Tone and Texture: By enhancing fluid movement, MLD may help improve the appearance of the skin, preventing tightness and promoting smoother, more even skin.

  8. Speeds Up Recovery Time: By promoting efficient lymphatic drainage, MLD can accelerate the healing process and help patients return to normal activity sooner.

  9. Helps with Bruising: MLD can help reduce the appearance of bruising by improving circulation and allowing blood and lymph to be more efficiently reabsorbed by the body.

  10. Decreases Inflammation: The lymphatic system helps remove waste and excess protein that can accumulate at the surgical site. MLD can reduce local inflammation, aiding in a quicker recovery.
