Who doesn’t like a good old-fashioned Best of Food and Drink Top 5 before the weekend? Downtown Vancouver is blossoming into a rich and vibrant place to explore.  During the day we see more and more people filling the sidewalks walking their dogs, going to work, visiting restaurants, running errands, and of course going to their spa and massage appointments. Most evenings, especially this time of year, the city begins to see an increase in the number of folks walking from place to place for eats and drinks, to their favorite wine bar, or popping in to grab cocktails and appetizers before the drive home, maybe even stopping to do a little indoor rock climbing. Just in the last couple of months, we have seen a number of new businesses popping up so we wanted to revisit our list of recommendations; there is certainly no shortage of delicious eateries and establishments to imbibe. This is our short list.

#1 Compass Coffee

We say good morning with Compass. Anyone that knows coffee knows that Compass is doing it right. They pride themselves on using the best beans available and roast in small batches. They know youwill be able to tell with the first sip of your pour over (or perhaps espresso). Check out their new space on Washington Street; it’s gorgeous and we are delighted they are only a block away from our shop now. Their blog is a fantastic resource for a deeper look into the world of coffee and also for your general Couve inspiration.

#2 Pacific House

They are right across the street from us on 9th and Main and we dig it. Pacific House is what Pacific Northwest cuisine is all about. Their food is not only tasty as all get-out but they are using regionally sourced ingredients. They smoke their own tuna in-house and use it in their face-melting tuna melt. We love it when the weather is nice and they open the windows all the way around the corner!

#3 Bleu Door Bakery

They have emerged into one of the BEST eateries in the area and it’s because their food is AMAZING. Pretty simple, right? They bake in small batches from scratch and have one of the best brunches you will find in Vancouver. The entire menu will make your mouth water but just try the homemade biscuits and gravy. You don’t have to go wait in line in Portland any more for proper brunch.

#4 Vinnie’s Pizza

STILL the best pizza in Vancouver. Vinnie’s offers a delicious menu of pizza, salads, and spirits. Their menu also includes a tasty Gluten Free crust option and toppings. The staff is always so helpful and seems genuinely happy to serve you. The space is great if you like a table to yourself or you can sit at the bar by the front window and people watch as you eat. There is always art displayed by local artists on the walls making this a great spot for lunch or dinner. Vinnie’s is always a great choice.

#5 Niche Wine & Art Bar

Niche carries 160 wine selections by the bottle and more than 30 selections by the glass and half glass. Their food is seasonal and includes international cheeses with fresh made desserts. The space welcomes you to sit at the bar for tasting convenience as well as a relaxing place to kick back and in comfort and enjoy the moment. There are always lovely pieces of art throughout the restaurant adding to the ambience.

#BONUS Couve Cycle

Our Top 5 list is busting at the seams. The Couve Cycle party bike is a recommendation that is just in time for summer. I’m sure you have seen these in other cities and now we have one in Vancouver! You can do this as a group or join up with other individuals to pedal from bar to bar through downtown. They just started tours last month and we love it when they pass in front of our shop on Main! Call 360-524-3383 to set up a tour!

These businesses are but a few of the favorites that are recommended to friends, family and clients here at Natural Body Works. Just make your way to downtown and choose for yourself what is going to satisfy both your curiosity and your appetite. You can’t go wrong, really!
